Department of Zoology

The department of Zoology was established in the year 1964. Name of First HODwasProf. B.B. Sharma. Currently Dr. Azad Ali, Associate Professor and senior most faculty of the department is on the chair of HOD. The department offers both Major and General courses in the subject to undergraduate students. At present there are five full time faculty members and three bearers in the department. The Department has a scientific research centre namely BIODIVERSITY AND ECOLOGICAL RASEARCH CENTRE (BERC) which was established by Dr. Azad Ali, Head of the department of Zoology in the year 2014 to provide scientific research skills to the budding student researchers of the College. 

The Department organizes zoological excursion and study tours at different places for studying living animals, their behavior with their habitats. Training programmes on Bird Watching, Awareness Bat Training and awareness programmes are highlights of the Department.

Departmental Library is also available with reference books andJournals. The Department of Zoology has a well equipped laboratory with Research facilities for Project work of Students and Teachers.

Objective:

• The Department aims to provide undergraduate courses in Zoology.
• To promote conceptual teaching in sub-disciplines ranging from Ecology, Wildlife Conservation, Biodiversity Management, Genetics and molecular biology, Entomology, Fish and Fishery Science, physiology, Endocrinology and biostatistics to the study of populations in both an ecological and evolutionary framework.
• To provide practical skills and knowledge of applied aspects of Zoology.
• To organise professional training for the students through wide range of Field based Zoological skill programmes under the departmental research wing namely Biodiversity and Ecological Research centre (BERC).
• To initiate constructive feedback through mentoring on their progress.
• To promote students for self employment through Forestry, aquaculture, sericulture, apiculture, bio-fertilizer and Vermi-culture with the help of Enrichment Course of the department namely “Economic Zoology
• Finally to produce globally competitive graduates in Zoology.
