The department of Arabic was established in the year 1984 with a fruitful hand of eminent scholar professor Saleh Uddin Ahmed, the first head of the department of Arabic. In the year 2009, the renowned professor M.A. Jotdar became the head of the department of Arabic till his retirement. Later on professor Abdullah became the head of the department of Arabic. At present Professor Abdul Motleb Mondal, in-charge head of the department of Arabic, Professor Abdullah, Dr. Atowar Rahman and Dr. Rafiqul Islam has been running the department smoothly. Since the outset of the department has given emphasis on the development of Arabic language and Literature so as to the learners are to acquire proficiency and skill to their better placement within the country as well as abroad.

The main objective of the department is teaching and learning of classical, modern, Indo-Arabic Literature (prose and poetry), history, grammar and functional Arabic etc. at the under- graduate level. These parts of the learning give information to the learners about the multidimensional characteristics of the Arabic. The course containing the composition based on moral and spiritual values guide the students to play a responsible role in the family as well as in the society.

We believe in imparting value based education and we foster literary sensibilities and the creative imaginations. We encourage and supervise our students to develop proficiency of Arabic language and literature. The faculty members show their concern and care for those students who are mainly belonging to the minorities section and marginalized in society. Our vision is to enable them to come back into the mainstream of the society. Most of the distinguished professors and teachers of different colleges, schools and madrassas of this region are former students of this department.

The vision of the department of Arabic may be summarized as:

  • To impart deep knowledge of Arabic language, Literature and Culture of the Arab World in order to strength the Indo- Arab relations.
  • To uplift the minority Community of Lower Assam especially Dhubri through higher Education, guiding them in right direction and enabling them to get job opportunities.
  • To Popularize the Arabic different awareness program to be organized in Schools and Madrassas
  • To promote the department as a Centre of knowledge of Arabic language and literature.

The academic environment of the department helps a good number of pass out students to take admission in the different Universities like- Aligarh Muslim University, Assam University, Silchar, Gauhati University and Cotton State University for studying master degree each year.
