1Report on “Scope and Opportunities in Botany” For B.Sc. 1st Sem Major (FYUGP) Department of Botany Session: 2024-20252024-08-06A lecture on “Scope and Opportunities in Botany”was conducted by Department of Botany, B.N. College (Autonomous), Dhubri on 6th August as per the guidelines of UGC for B.Sc. 1st semester Major. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Bipankar Hajong, Assistant Professor of the Department of Botany. The lecture was aimed to provide Botany first-semester students with an in-depth understanding of the various fieldssuch as Algae, Fungi, Plant Morphology and Anatomy, Plant Taxonomy and Systematics, Plant Physiology, Plant Ecology, Plant Genetics, Economic Botany and Ethnobotany, Paleobotany, Plant Pathology, Horticulture, Agronomy, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Phytochemistry, Plant Biotechnology, Forestry etc. within botany and the potential career paths available to them. It highlighted the relevance of botany in today's world and underscored the diverse opportunities that a degree in botany can offer. Career Opportunities in Botany The lecture then transitioned to discuss the various career paths available to botany graduates. It emphasized that a background in botany can lead to diverse roles across both government and private sectors. For instance, within the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, graduates may find opportunities in research institutes and biotechnology departments. In the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, students can work with the Botanical Survey of India (BSI) and the Forest Research Institute (FRI). Similarly, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, graduates can pursue careers in agricultural research, including opportunities with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Overall, the lecture provided a comprehensive overview of the many fields within botany and the varied career opportunities available to graduates. It emphasized the importance of botany in understanding and preserving the natural world, as well as its crucial role in addressing global challenges such as food security, environmental sustainability, and health. 2Report on “Course Outcome (CO)” For B.Sc. 3rdSem Major & Minor (FYUGP) Department of Botany Session: 2024-20252024-08-05A lecture on Course Outcome was conducted by Department of Botany, B.N. College (Autonomous), Dhubri on 5th&6th August and 2024, respectively for B.Sc. 3rd semester Major (FYUGP) as per the guidelines of UGC. The lecture was delivered by Ms. Lily Terangpi, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany. The lecture on Course Outcome (CO) was designed to give students gain-depth knowledge and clear understanding of the outcomes after a student completes a particular paper or course. The lecture emphasized several critical areas and understanding of Botany among the students such as basic knowledge and understanding of good laboratory practices, laboratory waste management, understanding hazards and risks to ensure a safe laboratory environment; understanding of measurements, units, and common mathematical calculations; knowledge on microscopy and culture techniques; understanding of sampling and data collection, and instrument operation and maintenance; knowledge on computing and field skills. Good understanding of Virus, Algae, Fungi, Bryophyte, Pteridophyte and Gymnosperms morphological structures, Dicotyledonous and Monocotyledonous leaf venation patterns. 4Report on “Programme Specific Outcomes (PSO)” For B.Sc. 1st Sem Major & Minor (FYUGP) Department of Botany Session: 2024-20252024-08-05A lecture on“Programme Specific Outcomes” was conducted by Department of Botany, B.N. College (Autonomous), Dhubri on 5th August and 7th August 2024, respectively for B.Sc. 1st semester Major (FYUGP) and 1st semester Minor (FYUGP) as per the guidelines of UGC. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Piyush Kumar Mishra, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Botany. The session also outlined the specific outcomes that the program aims to achieve, providing students with a roadmap of the knowledge and skills they will acquire throughout their course of studies. 5Observance of the World Environment Day ,20232023-06-05The Department of Botany, B.N. College, Dhubri observed the World Environment Day on 5th June, 2023 in collaboration with Eco Club and Environment and Climate Cell . Students and faculty members of various departments participated in the event enthusiastically. The programme was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr. Dhruba Chakrabortty. In his inaugural speech he emphasized on the need of reducing plastic pollution and promote green eco-friendly environment in the college campus in particular and everywhere in general. The students and faculty members of various departments participated in the Ankuran: seed sowing programme followed by tree Plantation programme. In this occasion Mr. Biswajit Goswami, Retd. Head, Department of Botany, Bilasipara College, Dhubri, Assam delivered eliminating lecture on the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”. The coordinator of Environment and Climate Cell, B.N. College, Dr. Samuel Sheikh also delivered a lecture on “Mission LiFE” to create awareness among all participants to adopt a healthy environment friendly lifestyle. Download

9Botanical Quiz2023-02-27Department of Botany organized a Botanical Quiz competition for the students of B.Sc. 2nd Sem (Hons), 4th Sem (Hons) and 6th Sem (Hons) Students of Botany on 27th February, 2023 with an aim to make their concept clear on the subject. Altogether seven groups i.e., Thallophytes, Bryophytes, Gymnosperms, Angiosperms, Bacteria, Fungi and Virus participated in the competition. All faculty members of the department were present in the competition. Mr. Sadiqul Ahmed, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, B.N. College, Dhubri acted as the Quiz Master. Kushal Shaw, CR of B.Sc. 6th Sem (H) and Rakesh Ray, CR of B.Sc. 2nd Sem (H) were acted as Score keeper. The first, second and third position were secured by the team Virus, Angiosperms and Bacteria respectively. The certificates were issued to each member of the winning teams. In their feedback students mentioned that such subject specific quiz competition has helped them in their understanding and also in inculcating thinking power. Download
10Invited Lecture Programme2023-02-22Department of Botany B.N. College, Dhubri Assam has organized an invited lecture programme on 22nd February, 2023 on “A Dialogue on Connecting The Dots- Skill Development, Innovation, Leadership & Life”. The programme was inaugurated by Mrs. Rita Borah, Vice Principal, B.N. College, Dhubri with her warm welcome address. All dignitaries joined in lightning of lamp. The resource person has given valuable insights through his speech. The students were motivated and inspired. They actively participated in the interactive session. 11Extension Activity2022-11-30An extension activity was organized by the Department of Botany, B. N. College, Dhubri at Bidyapara Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Dhubri from 29th – 30th November, 2022. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Jayanta Das, Principal, Bidyapara Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Dhubri and Dr. Piyush Kumar Mishra, HOD, Botany, B.N. College, Dhubri. Three students form B.Sc. 5th semester (Honours) namely Mr. Rajdeep Baruah (Roll No. 27), Mr. Kushal Shaw (Roll No. 26) and Sangita Karmakar (Roll No. 158) have participated in the extension activity. They took classes on various topics like Mendelian Genetics, Evolution and Structure of DNA. The programme was a successful one as all the students actively participated at the end of each class. 12Invited Lecture Programme2022-09-06On 6th September, 2022 an invited lecture programme was organized by the Department of Botany, B. N. College. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. D. Chakrabortty, Principal, B.N. College, Dhubri. The resource person has given valuable insights through his speech on “Forest Restoration and Conservation”. At the end of the programme plantation of some medicinally important plants has been carried out at the college campus. 14Departmental Debate Competition2022-05-25Department of Botany organized a Debate competition for the students of B.Sc. 2nd Semester (Honours) of the department of Botany on 25th May, 2022. The topic for the debate was “Traditional and Online Education for Science Students”. The entire students present were divided into two groups (A and B) for the competition. They strongly debate on various merits and demerits of Traditional as well as Online education for science students. Mr. Sadiqul Ahmed acted as the Judge for the competition. The winner of the competition was group A. In their feedback students mentioned that such debate competition has helped them in understanding the matter of concern and also in inculcating thinking power. Download

19Three Day Hands On Training Programme On “Plant Nursery Management”2022-02-19The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), B.N. College, Dhubri, Assam in Collaboration with Department of Botany, B.N. College, Dhubri, Assam-783324 have organized a Three Day Hands on Training Programme on “Plant Nursery Management”. The main objective of the training was to give the students a detail concept of nursery and its management. The programme has been started with the inauguration speech by Dr. Dhruba Chakrabartty, Principal and President, IIC, B.N. College on 17th February, 2022. In his inaugural speech, Dr. Chkrabortty has highlighted the importance of the knowledge of nursery to the students for their future endeavor. He also spoke on the significance of Institutional Innovation Council in Higher Educational Institutions. Mr. Mridul Ghosh has acted as the trainer for the three day hands on training programme. Faculty members of the department of Botany delivered their speech on topics relevant to the training programme as follows- 1. Dr. Piyush Kumar Mishra on “Asexual Methods of Propagation” 2. Dr. Puranjoy Mipun on “Nursey and Gardening: Scope and Future Aspects” 3. Mr. Sadiqul Ahmed on “Career in Floriculture” 4. 23Botanical Excursion for the session 2020-20212022-01-05Department of Botany B.N. College, Dhubri, Assam has organized a two-day Botanical excursion for 3rd and 4th January, 2022 to ICAR-CPCRI, Kahikuchi and Chandubi, Guwahati, Assam under the initiative of Dr. Piyush Kumar Mishra, HOD, Botany. 49 number of B.Sc. students were participated in the excursion out of which 23 were from 5th semester and another 26 were from 3rd semester and SEC course. On 3rd January they visit the ICAR-CPCRI, Kahikuchi to learn about crop research with special reference to horticulture. On 4th January they have made a field visit at Chandubi to study and collect medicinal plants for herbarium preparation. Dr. Puranjoy Mipun, Assistant Professor, Deptt. of Botany, B.N. College, Dhubri, Mr. Sadiqul Ahmed Assistant Professor, Deptt. of Botany, B.N. College, Dhubri. And Ms. Lily Terangpi Assistant Professor, Deptt. of Botany, B.N. College, Dhubri acted as the Teacher in-charge for the excursion. They along with students did an awareness programme on cleanliness in the village by actively participating in a cleaning drive. 24Departmental Seminar of Students2021-12-27Department of Botany organized a Seminar for the students of B.Sc. 5th Semester (Honours) of Botany department on 27th December, 2021 for acquainting them with the skills and methods of paper presentation. Students made their power point presentations on topics of their choice as per the CBCS syllabus which has benefited all the students. 25Science Poster Competition2021-12-23On 23rd December, 2021 a science poster competition was organized B. N. College, Dhubri under DBT STAR-College Scheme. The programme was inaugurated by Sri Appukuttan Jaykumar and Vijay Bharti, Advisor, DBT Star-College Scheme. A total of 31 posters have been presented by the students of science stream from various departments. Dr. Hiten Sarma, Associate Professor, Department of Physics, Dr. Piyush Kumar Mishra, Associate Professor, Department of Botany and Dr. Murshida Karim, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry were acted as the judge for the evaluation of the posters. The first and Second position were secured by the students from the department of Physics and the third position was secured by the students form the department of Botany.Download

29Students' Speech Programme for Commemoration of National Pollution Control day, 20212021-12-06Department of Botany and Zoology of B.N. College, Dhubri jointly organized a speech competition for the students of B.Sc. (Honours) of Botany and Zoology department on 6th December, 2021 for the commemoration of National Pollution Control Day, 2021. Since the 2nd December, 2021 was a State holiday hence the programme was organized on 6th December, 2021. Altogether six students form B.Sc. 1st, 3rd and 5th Semester (Honours) of both the departments participated in the competition. All faculty members of both the departments were present in the competition which was inaugurated by Mr. A.M. Mondal, Vice Principal of our college. Other faculty members were also present. Dr. Mausumi Das, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry and Dr. Nilam Jyoti Dutta, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics of our college acted as judges. Th programme was anchored by Dr. Piyush Kumar Mishra, Associate Professor & HOD, Botany. The technical assistance was provided by Mr. Sadiqul Ahmed, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany. 36REPORT ON ORIENTATION PROGRAMME2021-01-05On 5th January, 2021 an orientation programme was organized by the Department of Botany in collaboration with IQAC, B. N. College, Dhubri at Digital class room on “Scientific Article Reading: An approach of self-improvement for undergraduate students”. The programme was presided by Vice Principal, B. N. College, Dhubri and the same was attended by 1st, 3rd and 5th semester Major students along with coordinator, IQAC and teachers of Botany department. In this programme different aspects of scientific articles including research question and research methodologies have been discussed. The programme was a successful one as the reading of research papers will provide insights to students in understanding the definitions of scientific terms, explanations of methodologies, findings of referenced research, and justifications for the conclusions. 39REPORT ON DEPARTMENTAL SEMINAR2020-12-10Department of Botany organized a Seminar for the students of B.Sc. 5th Semester (Major) of Botany department on 10th & 11th December, 2020 for acquainting them with the skills and methods of paper presentation. Students made their power point presentations on topics of their choice as per syllabus which has benefited all the students. Their presentations were jointly evaluated by Dr. P.K. Mishra and Ms. M. 40REPORT ON TREE PLANTATION DRIVE2020-11-19On 19th November, 2020 a Tree Plantation Programme was organized by the students of B.Sc. 5th Semester (Major) class of the department of Botany at Botanical Garden for conserving and maintaining the green environment. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Dhruba Chakrabortty, Principal, B. N. College, Dhubri. He appreciated the initiative taken by the students and emphasized the need of such programme in the present context of Global Warming. The Vice Principal Prof. A.M. 44National Science Day Celebration2020-02-28On 28th February, 2020 the National Science Day was organized B. N. College, Dhubri and 12 students in 4 group from the Department of Botany have participated for Model and Poster presentation. The winners for the first prize of poster competition were Twahira Hoque, Rifat Sultana Begum and Anish Ahmed on the theme Hazards of Plastics. The winners for the second prize of poster competition were Anaruzzaman Khan, Antara Saha and Anju Monowara Khatun on the theme Eco-friendly Energy Source.Download

46Hands-on-Training on Instrumentation (Interdepartmental)2019-11-16On 11th November, 2019 an interdepartmental Hands-on-Training programme was organized by the Department of Botany, B. N. College on Instrumentation. Along with faculty members students of different department were also participated in the programme. The resource person demonstrated about the use and operation of different instruments used for Biological research such as Spectrophotometer, Trinocular Bright Field Microscope with camera and image analyzing software, Micropipette etc. The programme was a successful one as all the teachers and students were actively participated in the entire session of the programme.Download

49Extension Activity2017-06-05An extension activity was organized by the Department of Botany, B. N. College, Dhubri at Golakganj area, Dhubri on World Environment Day, 2017. A team of B.Sc. 3rd year students namely Mr. Sidharth Ray, Mr. Kartik Deuri, Ms. Nargis Zaman, Ms. Martina Das, Mr. Subhankar Sarkar, Ms. Nibedita Ray Prodhani, Priyanka Das, Dhurbajyoti Bhakat and Ms. Sutanuka Mondal have participated in the activity. The main objective of the activity was to create awareness among villagers about Global warming due to ongoing deforestation. They have carried out a plantation drive and distributed plant sapling among villagers free of cost.Download
